Ray Younkin
For the past seven years, Ray Younkin has been performing in and around Texas, the Midwest, and the Southeast United States. He became a traveling musician when he joined the Celtic folk band, Gordion Knot, in late 1995. As the guitarist/singer for the group, and during his three year stint with the band, he entertained audiences at many festivals, pubs, and listening rooms across the county. At only 16 years of age, the young and talented musician became quite versatile playing guitar and singing, and gained experiences most teenagers only talk about. Now at 23, he is on his own as a singer/songwriter, and is quickly making his mark as one of Houston's finest.
He left a competitive gymnastics career to pursue songwriting and performing. He has always been a performer, on the parallel bars or on stage, and his natural ability for writing songs about the human experience is well beyond his years. He can make you wonder, think, cry, smile, laugh, but most importantly, he can make you say to yourself, "Yeah, I relate to that." Most of his writing is done sitting at a coffee shop where the vast array of people and personalities command his creative attention. There is a certain magic when life and art collide, and a part of that magic is captured in every song Ray writes. Houston singer/songwriter Ken Gaines has said, "Ray Younkin is one of the most prolific writers we have here in town." At 23, he has a lifetime of performing and creating ahead of him, and he's already walking down an amazing path to a bright musical future.
